¿Qué es Falling Walls Lab Spain?

Falling Walls Lab es parte de la conferencia y plataforma Falling Walls, un evento que celebra los avances de la ciencia, el arte, la política y los negocios, en todas sus disciplinas y aplicaciones. Falling Walls Lab Spain está abierto a investigadores y emprendedores en cualquier disciplina que estén desarrollando un proyecto, un modelo de negocios, una 
iniciativa social o un programa de investigación con una idea ‘rompedora’ (breakthrough).

Es un concurso a nivel nacional orientado a jóvenes talentos científicos, innovadores y mentes visionarias en general, con el objetivo de seleccionar al representante de España en la final de Falling Walls Lab en Berlín los días 7, 8 y 9 de noviembre de 2022.

Es una oportunidad para que los participantes muestren una idea innovadora que dé respuesta a desafíos actuales en ámbitos tales como energía, pobreza, medio ambiente o salud. Las líneas de trabajo presentadas pueden ser de cualquier disciplina: agricultura, medicina, economía, ingeniería, ciencias sociales, humanidades, etc.

Este evento está inspirado en uno de los acontecimientos que ha cambiado el mundo: la caída del Muro de Berlín el 9 de noviembre de 1989. Falling Walls muestra el impacto positivo que tienen en la ciencia y en la sociedad todos los proyectos e ideas presentadas, intentando responder a la pregunta: ¿Qué muros caerán a partir de ahora?

Esta edición está organizada por la Sociedad Española de Bioquímica y Biología Molecular (SEBBM), la Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) y el Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales (MNCN-CSIC).

Inscripción y requisitos

¡El plazo ya está abierto! Podrás realizar la inscripción a través de esta web hasta el 8 de mayo de 2022.

Los participantes deben haber cumplido 18 años, pero no hay límite superior de edad. Deben, sin embargo, ser estudiantes, doctorandos, investigadores posdoctorales o haber conseguido su título de grado no hace más de 10 años, su título de máster no hace más de 7 años, o su doctorado no hace más de 5 años.

Final española

El 31 de mayo publicaremos los 15 finalistas. Si tu idea ha sido seleccionada tendrás que exponerla presencialmente en Madrid el 15 de junio. Prepara una presentación de 3 minutos en inglés contándonos tu investigación, modelo de negocio o iniciativa innovadora y el impacto positivo que tiene en la ciencia y en la sociedad. El ganador o ganadora del concurso en España viajará a Berlín para la final internacional con los gastos pagados.

Para esta edición, el jurado estará compuesto por cinco expertos de distintas áreas: 

• Perla Wahnón, presidenta de de la Confederación de Sociedades Científicas de España (COSCE)
• Guadalupe Sabio, profesora del Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares (CNIC / SEBBM)
• Asunción de los Ríos, vicedirectora de investigación del Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales (MNCN-CSIC)
• Javier García, presidente de la Academia Joven de España 
• Antonio Martínez Ron, periodista científico y escritor                                                                          

 

 

Final en Berlín

Los ganadores de los respectivos concursos nacionales son los que participarán en la final de Berlín, Falling Walls Lab, el 9 de noviembre y competirán con sus ideas por llevarse el premio a "Joven Innovador del Año". Además, se otorgarán varios premios económicos:

Primer premio: 1.000 €
Segundo premio: 750 €
Tercer premio: 500 €
Premio del público: 300 €

What is Falling Walls Lab Spain?

It is a national contest aimed at young scientific talents, innovators and visionary minds in general. The winner will represent Spain in the Falling Walls Lab final in Berlin, that will take place the 7, 8 and 9 November 2022. 

It is an opportunity for the participants to show an innovative idea that addresses one of the current challenges in areas such as energy, poverty, environment or health. The areas covered may come from any discipline: agriculture, medicine, economy, engineering, social sciences, humanities, etc. Falling Walls Lab Spain is open to researchers and entrepreneurs in any discipline, who are developing a project, a business model, a social initiative, or a research program that advances a 'breakthrough' idea.

This event is inspired on the falling of the Berlin Wall the 9 November 1989, an event that changed the world. Falling Walls shows the positive impact that all the projects and ideas presented have on Science and Society, trying to answer the question of how which walls will fall next. 

This edition is organised by the Spanish Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SEBBM), the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) and the National Museum of Natural Sciences (MNCN-CSIC).

Registration and elegibility

The registration is open! You can register through this web until the 8 May 2022.

Participants must be 18 years old, but there is no upper age limit. They must, however, either be a student, doctoral student or postdoctoral researcher, or have obtained their bachelor's degree no more than 10 years ago, their master's degree no more than 7 years ago, or their doctorate no more than 5 years ago.

Spanish final

The 31 May we’ll publish the 15 finalists. If your idea has been chosen, you’ll have to present it face-to-face in Madrid on the 15 June. You’ll have to prepare a presentation of 3 minutes in English telling us about your research, business model or innovative initiative, and its positive impact on Science and Society. The Spanish winner will travel to Berlin for the international final with all expenses covered.

Berlin final

In the Falling Walls Labs, candidates from different parts of the world will compete with their ideas to win the prize of “Young innovator of the year”. The international final will take place in Berlin, on the 9 November 2022, and the participants will be the winners of each national contest.

Apart from being able to attend the Falling Walls event in Berlin to present your idea if you win the Falling Walls Lab Spain, the winners of the Berlin final will also receive a monetary prize:

First prize: 1.000 €
Second prize: 750 €
Third prize: 500 €
Audience Award: 300 €
