Postdoctoral Researcher in Marine Conservation Science

This position offers a unique opportunity for a motivated postdoctoral researcher to contribute to impactful marine conservation science in the Mediterranean and Atlantic regions, under the guidance of professionals in the field of biogeography and conservation science.

Candidate Profile:

  • Educational and Research Expertise: candidates should possess a PhD in ecology, marine biology, oceanography, or related fields. A strong publication record in spatial conservation prioritization, particularly of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), is essential.
  • Additional Research Skills: experience in climate change impact assessment, species distribution modelling, and marine macroecology will be highly regarded.
  • Technical Proficiency: solid skills in R (and/or Matlab or Julia) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are required.
  • Teamwork and Communication: the role demands the ability to work collaboratively in teams, effectively share ideas, and engage in networking.
  • Language Proficiency: excellent writing skills and fluency in English are mandatory. Spanish language skills are an asset but not a requirement.

 

What We Offer:

  • Contract duration and salary: a 3-year contract with a salary commensurate with experience, ranging from €40,000 (starting level) to approximately €50,000 (advanced level). This is exclusive of a 33.6% addition for social security.
  • Supervision and collaboration: supervised by Research Professor Miguel B. Araújo and another academic (to be determined), offering an opportunity for close collaboration and mentorship.
  • Research environment: opportunity to join a dynamic and international team of highly motivated researchers at National Museum of Natural Sciences (part of the CSIC) in Madrid.
